Mock Interview Day for Bishop Laney Sixth Form
A business engagement experience for 40 students from Bishop Laney Sixth Form.
The Cathedral Education Department and Bishop Laney Sixth Form recently provided a business engagement experience for 40 students from Bishop Laney Sixth Form. Following a call for interviewers, two members of our team went along for the morning to provide some help.
Over the course of the morning we interviewed four students each. A fifteen minute interview was followed by feedback, giving tips and pointers on how they did. The students were a real credit to the Sixth Form, answering our questions intelligently and showing that they had put some real thought into preparing for the day. Being interviewed isn’t easy at any age but all the students were great communicators and spoke with confidence
Jo Evans, Economic Development and Marketing Officer, said “It was great to see the Ely business community lending a hand supporting local young people to develop their skills for work readiness. The interviews provided an opportunity for students to practice their communication skills, gain more confidence in front of employers and receive feedback to improve their interview techniques.
The interview sessions are in addition to the Business Mentoring initiative run by the Ely College which pairs representatives from local businesses with Sixth Form students. This provides students with a sustainable programme for acquiring the skills they need for the future, whether it be work with training, apprenticeships or university.”
We hope that this morning of practice interviews will be of benefit to the students in the future when they enter the world of work. The Cathedral Education Department plan to run the same scheme next year, and if you can contribute some time towards this very worthy cause, get in touch and let us know.
